A burn boss is someone who can responsibly schedule, plan, and oversee a prescribed fire over a wide variety of terrain, weather, etc. The state is trying to support certified burn bosses as a way to alleviate the current insurance stranglehold on prescribed burning so that the permit requirements will be much more reasonable during the wet months of the year. S-290 course offering later this month! If you are working toward the state-certified burn boss course, this is a pre-req for that course. The class needs 16 students registered to move forward, and otherwise it will be cancelled. Cost: $35. Contact Lenya N Quinn-Davidson, lquinndavidson@ucanr.edu for additional information or to register.
